We are Messengers of Reconciliation

Freshwater Staff   -

As followers of Christ, we are presented with many challenges in a secular world, but challenges are also opportunities. In the final message of our “Cancel Culture” series, Pastor Jake examined the call on our lives from 2 Corinthians 5:17-20 to be messengers of reconciliation.

That means our primary mission is to be Christ’s ambassadors who share the message of God’s love and forgiveness with a world that desperately needs it. As Jake pointed out, that only happens when we have an understanding of our new identity in Christ.

As believers, we are no longer defined by our past mistakes or cultural backgrounds. Instead, we are new creations with a divine purpose. This new identity empowers us to engage with the world in a way that reflects God’s desire to be reconciled with all men and women.

To effectively share the Gospel in a secular culture, Jake offered four practical tips that we see in action in Paul’s life from Acts 17:16-31:

  1. Study the culture: Understand the values, beliefs and concerns of the people around you.
  2. Find common ground: Look for shared values and experiences that can open up opportunities to deeper conversations.
  3. Use a shadowed truth to reveal the Living Truth: God will present us with opportunities to use the world’s longing for truth, goodness and beauty as a bridge to introduce people to the ultimate source of these qualities: Jesus Christ.
  4. Show them Jesus: Emphasize God’s love and forgiveness, and invite people to experience a personal relationship with Him.

By embracing our identity in Christ and actively sharing His love with others, we can make a significant impact on the world around us.
