Communications Assistant

Part time (5-10 hours per week)

Freshwater Community Church has an immediate need for an administrative specialist with proven writing and editing skills to serve as a part-time Communications Assistant. Under the guidance of the Communications Director, this position will primarily be responsible for keeping the Freshwater family informed of everything that is happening in the life of our church in a clear, comprehensive and timely manner. The Communications Assistant will plan and execute the church’s ongoing communications strategy by working with staff and ministry leaders to collect the relevant details for all church activities and updates, and then disseminating that information across Freshwater’s various communications channels, including but not limited to email, website, social media, church app and print materials. Even though this is a part-time position, the Communications Assistant serves an essential role in the continued health and growth of our church.

Qualifications

The following skills are required:

  • Impeccable writing skills with an ability to produce basic copy as well as long-form pieces.
  • Experience editing what others have written to optimize readability and comprehension.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Intuitive technical skills with the ability and desire to learn new programs and technologies.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

The following skills are desired, but not required:

  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS a big plus.
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools (social media, email and texting platforms, etc.).
  • Familiarity with web-based content management systems, particularly WordPress.
  • Graphic design experience.
Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary point person for the communications team by working with staff and ministry leaders to compile all information for church initiatives (events, classes and studies, ministry updates, church news, etc.).
  • Manage the church’s ongoing communications calendar by scheduling and executing the dissemination of information across all available channels (web, social media, email, texting, Sunday morning announcements, print, etc.).
  • Write and edit all copy to most effectively communicate essential details of church initiatives.
  • Modify copy as needed to properly utilize individual communication channels.
  • Coordinate with graphic designer(s) for design needs in alignment with communications calendar.
  • Produce content for and help manage the blog with regular posts to encourage online engagement.
