Seeing Jesus redefines us
Seeing Jesus through the eyes of Mary Magdalene reveals the transformative power of the resurrection. The resurrection is the cornerstone of our faith, demonstrating God’s power, affirming Jesus as the Savior, and offering forgiveness and the promise of eternal life.
On Easter Sunday, Pastor Jake continued in our “When You See Him” series by exploring the story of Mary Magdalene. Despite her troubled past, Mary becomes the first witness to the resurrection, illustrating that Jesus chooses the broken to reveal His grace and goodness. Her story is a reflection of our own, as we all carry labels from our past that we wish to shed. Yet, Jesus offers us a new identity, a new name, and a new life.
Mary’s encounter with the risen Christ is a powerful reminder that our past does not define us. Despite her history of being possessed by demons, Jesus calls her by name, signifying a personal and transformative relationship. This moment redefines her identity, moving her from a place of shame to one of purpose and joy. Similarly, Jesus calls each of us by name, offering a new identity that is not based on our past failures but on His love and redemption.
The resurrection is not just an event to be celebrated; it is a reality that redefines our lives. It breaks the chains of our past and offers us a new beginning. Jesus’ victory over death disarms the enemy’s power to accuse and shame us. In Christ, we are no longer defined by our sins but by His righteousness. We are called to live in the freedom and newness of life that the resurrection brings.
As we reflect on the resurrection, we are invited to respond to Jesus’ call. Whether we are wrestling with faith or have been following Him for years, the resurrection challenges us to embrace our new identity in Christ. It is a call to leave behind the grave of shame and step into the life of freedom and purpose that Jesus offers.
