BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR ROLE AND DUTIES AT FRESHWATER:

I’m the lead pastor at Freshwater. We just changed my job description in the past year. Back when I first started it used to say, “Do all the ministry duties.” Yeah, that was when we were much smaller. Now I’m more focused on vision and leading the staff and elders, preaching, and coaching the leaders of the Missions Team, Freedom Ministries, and Alpha and saving time to be with people.

TELL US ABOUT YOUR FAMILY:

My wife Jo-Lynn and I have been married since 1997. We have three kids. Jackson is in junior high. Zachariah is a sophomore in high school. And our oldest is Payton who is a sophomore at Liberty University.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF A PERFECT DAY OFF?

Any of these things: eating at a new restaurant, kayaking, fishing, snowboarding with any of these people: my wife, my kids, my mom and brother, and my friends. I’m also getting into fixing up cars…never saw that coming.

WHAT WAS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE FOOD AS A CHILD? DO YOU EAT IT AS AN ADULT?

Broccoli. Nope. Or Bananas. What a nasty piece of vegetation.

WHAT IS A BOOK THAT YOU’VE READ LATELY THAT HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?

I just reread The Cross and the Switchblade. I read that back in the early 80’s. So 30 years later I’m reading this and it wrecked me. I settle for too little. I don’t ask God enough. I put that book down and I have been praying far more than I have in a long time. Why is it that I drift from that which is the very essence of my call: Living by faith and asking God to bring His kingdom in all of its power and glory into my life and through my life into this world. Got me all fired up.

IF YOU COULD ELIMINATE ONE THING FROM YOUR DAILY ROUTINE, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

Maintenance. Would that God ban all maintenance from life. Just for once it would be a beautiful thing to set something up once and then have it work FOREVER and never break down or fall apart or get off track or slow down or wear out or rust out. I’m talking cars, computers, chickens, pigs, ministry, relationships, my body, the list is long! All of it. Kind of getting teared up just thinking about the possibility of it.
