Playbook for the Church
Last week, David Lane, our district superintendent, challenged us to reevaluate our traditional approaches to church leadership and discipleship. As David said, discipling the nations is why we’re on earth. It’s why we still draw breath after coming to faith in Christ.
There’s a playbook that Jesus wants the Church to execute. In that playbook, discipleship is Plan A. And there is no Plan B.
Inspired by Paul’s example throughout the book of Acts, we learned that effective ministry requires a dynamic and adaptable approach that focuses on equipping and empowering disciples. This means intentionally investing in the spiritual growth of individuals, helping them to deepen their relationship with Christ and develop the skills necessary to share their faith with others.
Discipleship is not merely about attending church services or participating in programs; it’s about actively engaging in a transformative journey that leads to spiritual maturity and effective ministry. True discipleship requires a commitment to learning, growing and imitating Jesus.
