Family Conversations: Where we’ve been and where we’re headed

Freshwater Staff   -

In our most recent Family Conversation, Pastor Sean and Clint Adams, one of our elders, joined together to look back at where we’ve been as a church family and to look ahead to where God is leading.

Sean and Clint opened by briefly reviewing the last four years post-Covid, a time that also included sending off Pastor Scott and his family after 19 years of leadership at Freshwater. By looking back, we’re able to see how God has been faithful to provide each step of the way as he resources his plan for our church and for each of us individually.

Sean and Clint then encouraged each of us to look ahead with a clear focus on four objectives:

  1. To celebrate God’s provision and grace
  2. To trust His plan and leadership for our church
  3. To look for Spirit-led assignments
  4. To join God where He is already working

Specifically, they looked at 1 Peter 2:9-12 (CSB), which reads:

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his possession, so that you may proclaim the praises of the one who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and exiles to abstain from sinful desires that wage war against the soul. Conduct yourselves honorably among the Gentiles, so that when they slander you as evildoers, they will observe your good works and will glorify God on the day he visits.)

If you follow Jesus, you are part of the royal priesthood! This is not a call for just pastors, elders and “super Christians” – this is for you as well.

As we continue moving forward while we also continuing to wait for God to provide a lead pastor, we remain committed to our vision of seeing disciples making disciples who bring transformation to the world through the presence and power of God.

If you call Freshwater home, what is your role in this movement forward? A couple weeks ago, Pastor Jake said, “Man-made purpose leads to man-made results.” God’s plan will always be better than ours – for our church and for our lives.

So be on the lookout for Spirit-led assignments, here at Freshwater, in your families and in your community. As we move into 2024 with a clear focus on our vision of being a church of disciples making disciples, how might you be able to join God where he is already working?

We will wrap up our Family Conversations next week and calling the church to a time of prayer and fasting. You can download a digital copy of the Prayer & Fasting guide here, or pick up a printed copy Sunday in the foyer. This was a powerful moment for our church family last year and we are excited to see how God honors this time again in 2024.
