What’s Written On Your Doorposts?

Beth Falkenberg   -

I loved the verses that Pastor Scott shared from Deuteronomy 6:4-9. I just want to continue to encourage you as you disciple your children…these verses are the blueprint God has given us to follow.

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.”

Being a godly parent can be intimidating sometimes…ok most of the time!! But God gives us clear instructions from these verses that show us that it is our responsibility, and we as parents need to own it!  When you decided to become parents, and dedicated them to God, you promised him that you would teach your children about his ways. The church is here for you, to support and equip you as you disciple your kids and teach them God’s truth! But it is God’s design for parents to be the primary spiritual influencer and teacher within their home…so jump right in and lead from God’s blueprint!! As Pastor Scott said, your kids want you to lead them and they are watching you everyday, hoping that you will!

We are commanded to Love the Lord our God with everything we have, our heart, our soul and our might. Teach this to your kids and let them see you loving God! Teach them about God by reading his word to them so that they know of his power, mercy and grace. Let them see you spending time with God. Fill your home with declarations of his love and faithfulness. Praise and worship him together! Dance and sing together…pour out your praise to him! Live out your faith each and every day so that they see what God means to you. Tell them stories about God’s transforming work in your life and his faithfulness even through the hard times. Show them how to write God’s word on their hearts and pray that God will walk with you every step of the way. Nobody can do this better than you! Own it!

What truth will your family see written on your doorposts?

3 John 1:4: I have not joy greater than this: To hear that my children are living in the truth.
